Cytological investigation of normal congunctival epithellum

Abstract
The epithelium scraping and several staining from three different parts of palpebral conjunctivae were performed on normal 74 symptom less Korean people -(from one year old to 75 years old).
This investigation was made in order to see how the structures of cytoplasm .and nucleus vary in normal cases.
In general, polyhedral cells are predominant at palpebral conjunctiva near to the lid margin. Goblet cells are found more frequently in inferior fornix.
It is characteristic to find more Pre-cornified changes in marginal conjunctival epithelium, particularly in older persons. In upper fornix, chromatin separation in the nucleus were most pronounced and nuclear condensation at lower conjunctiva. Pigment particles are easily found in tarsal part of conjunctiva in younger adult group. Nucleus mass herniation, pseudo-inclusion body are comparatively numerous in. all, groups and seem to be important for differentiation with another various early pathological changes in the epithelial cells of conjunctiva.
